‘There isn’t a single country in the world that hasn’t watched us. Even Madagascar had ten views last month,’ says Sam Chapman, one half of Pixiwoo, who, alongside her sister Nic, has been making beauty videos since 2007. Their channel now has more than 1.8 million subscribers, and they’ve swapped filming in their kitchens for a purpose-built studio. Their warm and easy manner is what you get in the flesh – no wonder the make-up courses they run sell out within hours and their brush collection, Real Techniques, is the number-one-selling brand in the UK. Combined with their younger brothers, Jim, who has a style channel, and John, who has a fitness channel, the family is pretty much a YouTube dynasty. They even encouraged Jim’s wife, Tanya Burr, to launch her own beauty channel. ‘We don’t talk about work when we’re together,’ says Nic, while Sam jokes there has to be a ‘phone amnesty’ at Christmas.

DOUBLE TROUBLE: Pixiwoo are Sam and Nic Chapman, sisters who started up their game-changing vlog channel in 2008, making the pair one of the true, original beauty bloggers on the online scene. Sixties eyes, forties lips and eighties blusher were all early videos (some modelled by familiar face Tanya Burr), but thanks to mega popularity (and 1.8 million subscribers), the duo now rub shoulders with celebs and vlog about their amazing day to day life.

GO PRO: Sam and Nic have actually worked as professional make-up artists for over ten years, going freelance after acing a BTEC in Make-Up and Hairdressing. Considering they’ve fluttered the lashes of supermodels for catwalks and front covers worldwide, we’ll trust their tips for a smokey eye any day.

GETTING REAL: After the phenomenal success of their YouTube channel (seriously, these girls set the benchmark for vloggers everywhere and are referred to the grandmothers of YouTube), Sam and Nic launched Real Techniques – a sell-out line of make-up brushes and accessories. Launched in 2011, the metallic shades, easy to use brushes – that are never tested on animals – have become essentials for any beauty addict.

KEEPING IT IN THE FAMILY: Let’s have a little history lesson, here: Sam and Nic’s aunt was a top make-up artist in her day, working with David Bowie and Princess Diana (that’s diversity). So now we know where the girls got the beauty bug! Sam and Nic have twin younger brothers, James Chapman (who you may know as Jim, fellow YouTube sensation) and John Chapman, one half of fitness duo The Lean Machines (232k subscribers and counting). Jim’s fiancée and fellow vlog star Tanya Burr can also be seen modelling in early Pixiwoo videos. Nic and Sam are seriously matriarchs of the vlog scene.
