NEW: The Hills AND The City back on TV (American that is)

Two of our favourite shows are returning to the TV tonight and the new series promise to be better than ever

Both of MTV's super-hit programmes will be back on American television tonight and for the first time ever they will air back-to-back.

Fans of the uber-glam shows from LA and New York will get a double dose of drama on Tuesday nights for the entire 10-episode series.

The conflict continues on both shows as Laguna Beach star Kristin Cavallari joins the cast of The Hills (as Lauren Conrad's replacement) while Whitney Port and Olivia Palermo follow new career paths (at People's Revolution and Elle magazine) in The City.

There are new jobs, new boys, new friends and a whole lot more drama in the upcoming seasons of the two shows

From the fresh faces of Roxy Olin and Erin Kaplan in The City to more heartbreak for Audrina as Kristin goes for Justin Bobby and the not-so-wedded bliss for newly married couple Spencer and Heidi, the new series look to be the best yet.

The only problem is that we won't get to see all the tears, tantrums and impossibly tanned bodies until the 18 October. 20 days and counting...
