On a red carpet where almost no one wore their original boobs, there was one foxy lady who stood out for her commitment to class and a good crumb. Yup, we’re talking about the one and only Queen B - no, not Beyonce, Mary Berry, obvs.
Taking her high standards for a well-dressed pastry and applying them to her red-carpet ensemble for the evening, Mazza Bezza (as the kids are calling her) looked super chic, and just a little bit Chanel couture in a beaded floor length number. In a sea of fake tan, leg splits and sheer panels, the 81-year old channelled major Helen Mirren vibes to school everyone on how understated is never overrated.
The recipe? Take dove grey tulle, add a modern t shirt length sleeve and waist-defining beading, before finishing with your signature string of pearls and a blow-dry with a rise to rival Paul Hollywood’s best choux bun.
Nabbing the award for Best TV Judge on the night (that air punch was everything), we’re awarding the Bake Off host with a second trophy - our very own You Actually Wore A Stylish But Not Totally Boring Or Completely Inappropriate Outfit Award. Catchy, right?
What's more amazing is she's humble AF, telling Healthy Magazine recently, ‘I’d never have thought of myself as a fashion icon before everybody started telling me I was one!' She adds: 'People should just wear what they want to, as long as it suits them and doesn’t look too young. I only wear things that I think suit my shape and age. I wouldn’t wear anything too short or low-cut.’ Nailed it.
But it’s no surprise to us that Mary's top of the class in the style stakes. Lest we forget those floral Zara bombers and pink jackets that brightened the Bake Off tent every week and showed Mel and Sue how a blazer should actually be worn. Soz, not soz.
With our fave cake-based series out of our lives forever (let’s face it, Channel 4 will defo ruin it - you can’t just get Keith Lemon to present everything!) we’re thinking this could be a strategic move from Mazza - could a Bake Yourself Stylish series be on the cards? Because we would totes watch that. Listen up, Netflix.
