The guestlist read like that of a fantasy dinner party – Vivienne Westwood, milliner Stephen Jones, model Jade Parfitt, shoe designer Nicholas Kirkwood and of course team InStyle – but who better to host such a night in reality than fashion guru Andre Leon Talley and shoe god Manolo Blahnik?
Invited by cultural diplomacy body Liberatum and Spice Market at W London, the two hosts talked favourite films, Leicester Square to Times Square style and swapped amusing anecdotes in the hotel’s intimate screening room before ushering everyone to the delights of the Spice Market.
On the subject of style, the ever-charismatic Andre enthused: “The classic London look is hugely inspiring, with its reinvention and reinterpretation time after time. New York fashion, on the other hand, is gritty, edgy but always stylish.”
But it was the fashionable pair’s flair for film that really enlivened their audience with Manolo’s encyclopedic knowledge of classic film costumiers and Andre’s admiration for all things Adrian (costume designer extraordinaire of the 30s and 40s).
Discussion continued amid the fine dining environs of Spice Market, with a specially created menu inspired by the restaurant’s signature South-East Asian street-food style, and was ebbed along with some yummy Lychee Raspberry Bellini cocktails.
We had a blast hanging out with the fashion aristocracy!
