Lily-Rose Depp On Chanel, Kaiser Karl And Taking Advice From Her Mum

Meet the 17 year old star of the Chanel couture show.

Actor, model and Chanel muse. At only 17 years of age, Lily-Rose Depp is definitely giving us career FOMO. With legendary parents, mum is singer-model Vanessa Parasis, Dad is Hollywood star Johnny Depp, it was unlikely that Lily-Rose would end up doing your average 9-5 job. Having first met Karl Lagerfeld when she was eight years old, Lily-Rose made her Chanel debut at their casino themed autumn/winter couture show. Last year she became the face of Chanel No 5 L'Eau and most recently walked arm-in-arm with Karl down Chanel's spring 2017 couture runway to close the show. On top of that she has starred in the French biopic The Dancer, and comedy Yoga Hosers. Next up she stars alongside dad Johnny and best friend Harley Quinn Smith in Moose Jaws. Speaking to InStyle last year, her mum Vanessa said: 'I was not surprised Lily-Rose has gone into this industry. I was surprised it happened so soon, but not surprised this is what she is doing, she's made for it. I don't need to give her advice, I ask for her opinion and she asks for mine of course, as mother and daughter we talk and we do talk about the business but honestly she's got it so good I'm very happy.'  Here our 2017 #girlcrush talks getting in the party mood, nailing Chanel campaigns and parental advice...

On working with Karl Lagerfeld...

'A lot of people will think that working with Karl is intimidating as he is such an icon and presence, and in a way I guess it is. I was pretty nervous in the beginning and pretty intimidated even though I've known him since I was eight years old. But I think once you get on set and you're actually there, working with him you realise, he’s really not as scary and intimidating as everyone thinks he is. He's honestly just the nicest guy. And he's so smart and creative. Working with him is a collaboration more than anything else. He wants to work with you, he wants to see what you bring to the table and you want to see what he brings to the table, so it's more of a partnership in that way which is what makes it's so enjoyable. He is the best person I've ever shot with.

On how Karl nails those campaign shots...

‘He makes you feel really comfortable. Once he gets what he wants and once he knows he's got the shot that he wants, you're done so it's not like you have to slave away all day for one photo because once he knows that he has got what he is looking for then you are done. That's what's so good about collaborating with him because you find that common ground, you know what works him and what works for you and it always ends up making something really amazing.’

On advice from her mum Vanessa Paradis...

‘She just gives me the same advice that any other parent would- just do your best. She's proud of me, she's supportive. I'm just starting out so I still have a lot to learn.'

On what it's like being a teenager and working full-time...

'I have learned a lot but I think it's all just an experience. I think you can be told as many things as you want but I think at the end of the day you learn the most when you are actually doing it. So I think for me what's helped is just actually shooting and being on a film set. I learn from  directors, I learn from my co-stars, I learn from the camera crew - everyone on set has their own way to work and their own things to bring to the table so being in that enviroment makes you learn the most. You can prepare as much as you want but I think the most learning happens when you are actually in it and experiencing those things, so that's what's helped me the most.’

On getting ready for a night out...

'I love getting ready for parties, even just high school parties, I love getting my hair and makeup done, it's just fun. You've got to jam out, I always blast rap music with my friends when we're getting ready, you can't take it too seriously. My go to party song? I really love the Travis God album, I've been really vibing with that one.'

On if she thinks she has any qualities that are similar to Coco Chanel...

'I can only hope. She is a hugely inspiring woman but I don't think I would compare myself to the likes of her, I respect her a lot and I really admire her but I think I have a lot to learn before I can compare myself to her.'
