InStyle gets a sneak preview of Lily Allen's fabulous new jewellery collection.

We have to admit we have a mini crush on singer and fashion icon Lily Allen at InStyle, so we were pretty excited to be invited to a private 'Tea with Lily' and a sneak preview of her new jewellery range at Claridges yesterday.

Lily Allen, the new face of Chanel, was looking super svelte (we're guessing size 6-8) and gorgeous in a black bodice, black jeans and a natty jacket. Just the outfit to show off her bling new jewellery to the max.

"I was so excited when I was asked to design a jewellery collection," Lily Allen told us. "I was in New York and literally went straight out to a bookshop and bought about 40 reference books, on everything from antique jewellery to modern day bling. Then I went through them and chose loads of things that inspired me. I sent them to the designers with annotations on how I wanted the pieces to look and how to update them.

"I had no idea about how to design a coherent collection so I asked my old friend, jewellery designer Solange Azagury-Partridge, what to do. I have always loved her stuff. She told me to design different ranges within the collection.

"So that's exactly what I did," admitted Lily. "Firstly there's the coin collection which is a nod to my gypsy past. My grandmother was a proper gypsy, and I have inherited quite a lot of her pieces. We took the idea of coins as the basis and then updated them by putting moons and stars on the faces.

"I also wanted to do something with fruit and animals, and of course smiley faces to match my body tattoo. I love the idea of layering jewellery and all the pieces will cost between £30 and £100, so everyone will be able to afford something. My favourite piece is the pink diamante flamingo on a long gold chain," said Lily.

But there were so many fab pieces on offer that we found it difficult to choose between them. Our absolute faves include the cute diamante pear and a pair of pretty earrings in the shape of fish. And we'll be snapping them up as soon as they hit the shops around December.

So after all that designing and, okay, quite a few singing gigs too, what glamorous place is Lily Allen going to be hanging out in over the summer?

"I have two weeks' holiday now and I'm going nowhere," she admits. "I am always on the road and I am really looking forward to just spending some time at home."

The range is coming out just before Christmas but it's such early days that negotiations are still going on as to which high street chain is going to get their mitts on the collection first. Watch this space for updates.
