Pop sensations Jessie J and Lady Gaga proved why they’re at the top of the charts with two stellar performances at the Radio 1 Big Weekend.
Never one to miss an opportunity for a grand opening, Lady Gaga made a weirdly wonderful entrance at the Radio 1 Big Weekend by arriving on stage in a gold coffin before getting out to reveal a black PVC prosthetic pregnant stomach.
Amid costume changes and trumpet instrumentals, Lady Gaga played remixes of her fans’ favourites as well as admitting she was a fan of newlyweds the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Having rewritten the lyrics to Nat King Cole’s jazz tune Orange Coloured Sky, the blonde bobbed bombshell dedicated the song to “Will and Kate” before pronouncing to 40,000 fans: “I was wishing I was at the royal wedding.”
The Carlisle Airfield was filled with fans the night before too to see Jessie J rock the stage in a lingerie-like bandage dress with new longer-length hair. After her set the Brit popstar admitted: “I was so scared it was my first festival and I didn’t know what the sound was going to be like and the reception.”
But she had no need to worry and with Ellie Goulding, Black Eyed Peas and Tinie Tempah also there, it was a great way to start Britain’s summer of music. Roll on Glastonbury!
