Kate Winslet has revealed the reason she named her baby Bear Blaze. The Oscar-winner and her husband Ned Rocknroll welcomed their son into the world last December, and caused surprise with the unusual choice of name.
As celebrity baby names go, we've heard stranger. Still, Bear Blaze isn't a name you're likely to hear in every school playground.
The actress appeared on the Ellen Degeneres show, and told the TV host just why she named her son Bear Blaze.
'Bear's second name is Blaze because my husband and I met in a house fire basically, ' Kate told Ellen. The fire the actress refers to is the now infamous inferno that burned down Richard Brnason's home on Necker Island 2011, which also saw Kate crowned a hero when she carried Branson's 90-year-old mother to safety.
'The house burned down and we survived, but we wanted something of the fire and so Blaze was the name that we came up with. Bear Blaze.'
So that explains the last name, but what about the first?
'A friend of mine when I was younger was nicknamed Bear and I just had always really loved it,' Kate said. 'And he was very much a bear. He was everyone's shoulder to cry on - he was a big bear hug. He was a great figure in my life and I just had always remembered him and so that's where it came from.'
We need wonder no more...
