Kate Middleton to christen ship the month before birth of royal baby

Before Kate Middleton begins her maternity leave in June she's scheduled to attend the naming ceremony of a ship in Southampton…

With the royal baby due in July, there's only three months remaining before the Duchess of Cambridge officially begins her maternity leave. Aptly, it seems one of her last royal engagements before her leave date will involve a christening.

Kate Middleton will be responsible for whetting the head of Princess Cruises' new ship, Royal Princess. In traditional style, she'll play godmother to the 3,600 passenger ship on 13 June 2013 by breaking a bottle of champagne over its hull.

Alan Buckelew, president and chief executive of Princess Cruises, explains: "It's a great honour for Princess Cruises that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge has accepted our invitation to become the godmother to Royal Princess.

"We are delighted that the Duchess will launch our new ship and can think of no better way to celebrate our company's British heritage and our commitment to the country."

The occasion will mark a full circle of official engagements for Kate, as she previously christened a ship at the RNLI lifeboat naming ceremony in Angelsey in February 2011, just after her engagement to Prince William was announced.

Seeing as Kate Middleton will be eight-months pregnant by the date we can't wait to see how she tackled dressing her burgeoning bump.
