Prince William and Kate Middleton arrive at Buckingham Palace

Prince William and Kate arrive at Buckingham Palace for a pre-Christmas lunch

Kate Middleton and Prince William kicked off their Christmas celebrations today, with a festive lunch hosted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

The Duke and Duchess took up their places at the dinner table alongside numerous members of the Royal family, including Prince Charles, Camilla Parker Bowles and Princess Beatrice.

Arriving slightly later than everyone else, Kate joined William in the passenger seat of their car (driven by a bespectacled Wills) wearing a Christmas-appropriate, tomato-red coat by Giorgio Armani.

We first saw the Duchess wear the striking cover-up way back in 2006 at Prince William's graduation, and then again earlier this year on a visit to Dumfries. Kate is clearly enjoying rediscovering the gems in her pre-maternity wardrobe, as we have seen her rework a number of favourite looks in the past couple of months.

Kate's outing to the palace comes amid rumours that her sister, Pippa Middleton, is newly engaged to her banker boyfriend, Nico Jackson. US Weekly has reported that Jackson proposed during a holiday to India's Oberoi Amarvilas, however nothing has yet been confirmed.

Meanwhile, it seems Prince George was left at home with the nanny on this occasion, but no doubt he'll be attending the annual Royal Christmas get together soon.
