At a recent junket for Guy Richie’s new flick The Man From U.N.C.L.E, Superman actor Henry Cavill was asked directly if he was going to be in the sequel to the Fifty Shades of Grey movie. His reply? “"Basically what I can say is I can't say anything about it right now,” which, in our language, is as good as a big fat yes.
But before you start panicking, no, he’s not replacing Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey. Instead, there’s a strong rumour that he will play Jack Hyde, Anastasia Steele’s (Dakota Johnson) boss, who is described in the book as “a man with sensual blues eyes that can pierce your heart." Henry ticks that box, and he’s also a bit of a dish. In fact, let us spoil you for a minute with this picture of Henry with Jamie:
You can kind of see what they're thinking of over at Fifty Shades Towers, Can't you?
But who is he? Born in Jersey, he first shot to fame in The Tudors, opposite Jonathan Rhys Meyers. From there, he was cast as Superman in Man of Steel which, to date, is the most successful Superman film ever. It was, however, a part he fought long and hard for. As far back as 2002 his name was linked to the project, but before him, Christian Bale won the part and, later, Brandon Routh.
When he was finally cast, he had to follow a strict 5,000 calories diet and undertake a rigorous regime at the gym for six months.
We’ll leave you with this rather special quote from the man himself about his ripped physique. “At the end of Man of Steel, I had a suit tailored for the Immortals premiere. At that stage, I was at my very leanest, and just after shooting my shirtless scenes. At the very end of the movie, I put that suit on again for a photoshoot we were doing and I ripped the seams, the inside seams, just because my thighs were that much bigger.”
