Project 13’s Ultimate Blogging Sensation pays homage to the internet’s big hitters. Nominated from last year’s Project 13 pool of winners, you voted for this YouTube legend as your winner. She is...

Fleur De Force
From Northampton to now, Fleur De Force’s rise to internet fame has been meteoric. Fleur’s beauty tutorials, style diaries and What’s In My Bag videos with the likes of Lily Aldridge reach an audience in the millions. Fleur’s fame has even come off screen in the form of not one, but two lifestyle books, as well as a make-up line, making her a serious style influencer. Fleur won a double whammy in last year’s Project 13 awards, taking home the prizes for Most Outstanding YouTuber Of The Year and Best Getting Ready Video – here she is, making it two years in a row.

How does it feel to have won this award two years in a row?
Amazing! I really couldn’t believe it when I got the email saying I’d won again, especially as it’s voted for by fans.

If you were, say, ten years older and vlogging hadn’t been an option, what do you think you would be doing for a living?
I studied geography at university which was totally unrelated, but I think I’d probably be in marketing events. I worked part time doing that throughout my gap year and through the three years of university and it’s what I wanted to go into.

Do you think that people understand digital influencers better now than when you first started out?
I started full time six years ago now and at that time I used to get questions, from usually my parents’ friends. They were like ‘oh, so when are you going to get a job?’ I’ve got a job! You definitely came across that in the early days a lot. Now people understand what I do better thanks to things like Project 13 and the traditional media embracing it a bit more.

How has YouTube changed in that time?
It’s totally changed. It’s become an industry. It’s expanded into its own arm of the media whereas before it was so raw. Part of me does miss that original vibe of YouTube; it being so raw and uncut. I still do seek out that kind of content from new channels just starting out that have that non-polished edge to them, although I love the polished stuff as well.

How long do you spend watching YouTube?
If I am busy then I will really struggle to watch it but if I ever have a free evening I’ll watch a few videos. I tend to keep up with my friends more than anybody else. I’ve made so many friends over the years that are all over the world and I don’t get to see them very often. It’s nice to have that connection with them, to sit and watch a video and catch up with what they’ve been doing.

Do you ever just watch TV?!
Not really but Netflix is my number 1 I have to say. Stranger Things is probably my favourite thing I’ve watched recently. It’s SO GOOD. I can’t wait for season 2.
