12.15pm The beauty prep begins with a visit to the Charles Worthington style suite at The Dorchester…where my chin-length bob gets miraculously transformed into a beehive - just like (BAFTA nominee) Carey Mulligan’s up-do in An Education. J’adore.
1.30pm I pop down the corridor to the Lancome suite where yet more miracles are performed on me. Somehow the makeup artist (with the help of Lancome’s Hypnose mascara) has made my eyelashes look so long that they look like falsies. Respect!
5.00pm Dressed in my stunning Escada ensemble - a sheer black top with billowing sleeves and pencil skirt (with some gorgeous neck and wrist bling by Butler and Wilson), I do my best Dita von Teese and wiggle through The Dorchester (I can't seem to walk properly - I think my Spanx are a size too small). I meet up with the lovely and charming Escada team (I’m one of their guests at the event) for the taxi journey to the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.
6.00pm Surprise (not!) – it’s raining. But that hasn’t deterred the throngs of fans from gathering in the freezing cold, taking pictures, getting autographs and screaming at everyone. I can understand their excitement – I find myself gawping (unattractively) in awe at Up in the Air star Vera Farmiga’s stunning white Marchesa dress (left), and when I find out that K-Ro (Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson) are nearby, I have to phone a friend.
7.30pm The Awards ceremony begins…Jonathan Ross is on typical, witty form and the presence of Prince William makes a lot of the ladies in the audience giddy (obviously quite a few fancy themselves as princesses).
10.30pm The private, post-awards dinner begins at Grosvenor House. I’m going to be sitting with talented British actress Ruth Wilson (wearing a gorgeous, vintage-style Escada dress, top left) and as we go down the stairs into the Ballroom we brush past Mickey Rourke, while just ahead is Kristen Stewart (who’s still growing out her mullet from her role playing Joan Jett in forthcoming film The Runaways).
10.45pm A tall, pale, handsome (and fang-free) R Pattz joins Kristen at the dinner table to our right, just before Carey Mulligan sweeps past us in her incredible monochrome gown. Dustin Hoffman stands beside our table surrounded by admirers, and we watch Gabourey Sidibe (the astoundingly talented star of Precious) walk past, looking gorgeous and a little overwhelmed at the attention she’s getting.
Midnight The Grey Goose vodka after-parties start - all I have to do is stroll upstairs. I make my way to the Soho House private party and spy Mickey Rourke hanging out with jewellery designer Stephen Webster. After stopping to watch Little Boots sing at the grand piano in the corner of the room, I sip one last Leading Lady Grey Goose cocktail then realise the time (it's work tomorrow!) So this little Cinderella must get her taxi home (and take off those damn Spanx). Look out for exclusive pictures and story about our night with the A-list in the May issue (on sale from 1 April)…
