Rihanna has always been a starlet who's not afraid to push the fashion boundaries – her totally see-through dress aptly springs to mind – but after a series of sophisticated outfits that belong anywhere but the raunch-o-metre, we wonder if Rihanna has changed her style for good.
We clocked the 26-year year old Umbrella songstress looking seriously chic while out and about in NYC, rocking an outfit which has to up there as one of our favourite RiRi looks to date.
Jumping on AW14's seventies trend early, Rihanna looked amazing the in navy and brown striped palazzo trousers which she effortlessly paired with a classic marl vest, monochrome courts and statement tan sunglasses. We like.
She even toted a ladylike, moc-croc handbag and kept her jewellery refined and minimal; a far cry from her previous wardrobe repertoire of '90s slip dresses offset with teen-esque converse trainers.
Days before this stylish look, Rihanna stepped out for dinner with friends looking just as gorgeous in another hit ensemble.
The colour might be bold but there was nothing garish about her Helmut Lang frock. The on-trend ankle length drapes fell elegantly towards her feet while the shorter hemline underneath showed off Ri's toned pins perfectly without making us blush. Her lace up Christian Louboutin courts oozed just the right amount of sexiness and she again decided to keep her bling understated and, in turn, very cool.
However, we're glad to see that she hasn't entirely ditched her edgy signature style. Her noteworthy oversized hoop earrings and monochrome stripe clutch home in on the street-appeal we've come to associate with Rihanna and are a welcome addition to her block-colour outfit. After all, we wouldn't want her to change her game completely.
Rihanna in jeans? And a blouse? Wearing walkable heels? Yep, this was the look that would prove to be the sign of very good things to come. Her casual ensemble, minimal make-up and long flowing locks really do the beautiful singer justice. It just goes to show that sometimes less if definitely more.
RiRi, we're officially loving this new, paired-back you. But, if her sartorial record is anything to go by, we can't help but wonder just how long she can go before she feels the need to shock us all once again. Stick it out, Ri...
