Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have single-handily changed the way we all look at separation. After announcing that they were parting ways after ten years of marriage in March last year, we were gutted. After all, these two had a family, and had always come across as one of the most, for the lack of a better word, normal couples in Hollywood. However, from the word go, we knew their split was going to be different than any we had seen before.
For starters. they announced their decision via the medium of a heartfelt blog post on Gwynnie's lifestyle website Goop, which went something like this:
'It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate. We have been working hard for well over a year, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate. We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been. We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and co-parent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.'
Yep, their now iconic conscious uncoupling was previously unheard of in a biz which is infamous for its messy divorces and, true to their word, they've remained fiercely close ever since. In fact, there have been whispers that Chris' new girlfriend, Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, has actually bought her new New York home deliberately near Gwyneth's pad just so Chris can see his children, Apple and Moses, with ease. What's more, Gwyn and Chris continue to celebrate everything from major occasions to coffee breaks together, with their last meet happening just last week.
And while their on-going 'relationship' has received a bit of the side-eye from the media, all in all we reckon they're doing a pretty amazing thing. However, Gwyneth has now opened up about their situation for the first time, and has revealed that it's definitely NOT as seamless as it's made out to be! Go on, Gwynnie...
Speaking at the #BlogHer15 conference in NYC last week, Gwyneth explained: ‘It’s been hard, and you know, like, we’ve gone through really difficult times with it but we’ve always said these children are our priority. What that really means is, “Even though today, you hate me and you never want to see me again, like, we’re going to brunch, cause it’s Sunday and that’s what we’ll do!” You know, like, “That’s what’s happening!”'
It goes without saying that what they're doing is WAY harder than it looks for the outset, then. However, after dropping that bombshell, the 42-year-old Avengers Assemble and Iron Man actress went on to gush about her ex-husband, and praise him for his continual support since their split.
'I really like him, he's great and a great dad. I think, unfortunately, though we couldn’t stay in a romantic relationship, we’re very, our values are very much around the importance of family and the importance of those relationships and I’m lucky that we’re aligned in that way.'
This has to be the most REAL we've ever heard Gwyneth talk about, not just her separation from Chris Martin, but their entire relationship with the Coldplay frontman. Proof that Gwyneth's seemingly perfectly polished life does in fact have a few cracks, but that she's totally ok with it.
If that's not inspirational, we don't know what is.
