Despite the release of Baz Luhrmann's Great Gatsby remake being pushed back to next summer, flapper fever is already sweeping the fashion industry, and now we have more details on its fabulous costumes, thanks to Miuccia Prada.
Luhrmann has a long-standing friendship with the Italian fashion designer, having worked with her on the Romeo & Juliet wardrobe and directing the short films that punctuated the Met Museum's Miuccia Prada/Elsa Schiaparelli exhibit. So, it's no wonder she's involved in his latest release.
Miuccia has collaborated with Gatsby costume designer, and Luhrmann's wife, Catherine Martin, to choose 40 designs from her Miu Miu and Prada design archives, to be worn by Carey Mulligan's character Daisy Buchanan and the other female cast members.
The fashion designer said of the process: "I usually try not to literally reference periods in my work, because that’s not the way I think. But when I worked on the costumes, I realised how many pieces could become very 1920s with a little intervention and another point of view."
Add to that Tiffany & Co's glittering jewels and dapper suits for Mr Gatsby himself, aka Leonardo DiCaprio, by Brooks Brothers, and we're in store for Luhrmann's most sartorially accomplished film to date.
