After 20 years spent sashaying down the runway, Gisele Bündchen has walked the catwalk for the final time.
Having announced her plans to retire last month, the world's richest supermodel was on home turf in Brazil yesterday to make her final appearance on the runway at Sao Paulo Fashion Week, the place which launched her career and propelled her to stardom two decades ago.
The model chose Brazilian label Cocci's show as her last, and while she managed to keep a smile on her face throughout the show, when her fellow models came out during the finale wearing T-shirts bearing her image Gisele got a little bit teary. But then, who could blame her?
Husband Tom Brady, who was sat in the front row to watch his wife's final turn down the runway, also got a bit emotional, taking to Facebook to pay tribute to the 'love of his life.'
You inspire me every day to be a better person, Tom wrote. I am so proud of you and everything you have accomplished on the runway. I have never met someone with more of a will to succeed and determination to overcome any obstacle in the way. You never cease to amaze me. Nobody loves life more than you and your beauty runs much deeper than what the eye can see. I can't wait to see what's next. I love you.
Gisele herself had a message to all her fans, also writing on Facebook: 'I am grateful that at 14, I was given the opportunity to start this journey. Today after 20 years in the industry, it is a privilege to be doing my last fashion show by choice and yet still be working in other facets of the business.'
So while Gisele has bid fgarewell to the runway, she's certainly not ready to retire form the fashion world for good.
