George Clooney and his wife Amal have been treating us to countless super-sweet PDAs since they look up their residency in New York City. With date nights at least three times a week and Amal coming to visit him on his latest film set, we're getting to see their newlywed relationship unfold before our very eyes. Dreamy, huh?
However, as George has just revealed, their marriage didn't exactly get off the the perfect start...
While talking about his new flick Tomorrowland on CBS This Morning in the USA, the 54-year-old actor unveiled that while their engagement came as a surprise to many, it seemed to shock Amal the most, as her reaction proves.
George kicked off his story by revealing that he and his 39-year-old human rights lawyer spouse had never even had 'the chat' before he decided it was time to pop the question: 'When I asked her, you know, we'd never talked about it.... There wasn't like a, "Maybe we should get married" [conversation],' to which he then said. 'I dropped it on her!'
He decided to propose to her at home, and had even 'cued up a playlist' of some of his aunt Rosemary Clooney's songs. No doubt his attention to detail won over Amal but for little while there, George was unsure if she was going to say yes. Really, George? REALLY?
'I asked her, and she just kept saying, "Oh my God," and "Wow," and we just sat there,' he said. 'And finally, I just said, "Listen, I'm 53 at the time, or 52 at the time, I think... I said, "I've been on my knee for about 28 minutes so I gotta get an answer out of this because I'm gonna throw a hip out!"'
Poor Georgey. Of course, it all worked out alright in the end but we can't blame him for being a bit nervous — 28 minutes is a long time to be on bended knee after all.
Amal, you're one lucky lady...
