Having already earned her the Best Actress accolades at the Golden Globes and Critics' Choice Awards, there's no doubt that Black Swan boasts Natalie Portman's most accomplished performance yet, so it comes as no surprise that the ballet thriller has been ten years in the making.

"Darren (Aronofsky) approached me with the idea ten years ago when I was still in college, with a story set in the ballet world, which always really appealed to me as a form of expression without words," Natalie told InStyle.
The petite star has been dancing since childhood, but she revealed the five-hour training regime was no mean feat: "I did ballet, swimming and toned every day for a year. To get into character I had to get into that mode and not eat or sleep and work out all day and push myself through injuries."

It was also pretty taxing for Natalie having to tap into her character Nina's sinister side, and taking on the pressures that came with playing such a ruthlessly ambitious dancer: "It's frightening to know you can deprive yourself. I didn't expect it to be so much pressure, but I'm glad I went in with so much enthusiasm about doing ballet, it really propelled me through the role and the difficult moments."
One of Natalie's biggest highlights though, was working with such a talented crew, especially Winona Ryder who plays her predecessor: "I'm so glad I had a chance to work with her - she's an icon, and I hope I get the chance again."
Aside from the chilling performances, for us fashion fans it's the custom-designed wardrobe by Rodarte design-duo, the Mulleavy sisters, that really captivated us. And, it seems Natalie was pretty smitten herself; from the "headpieces to the knit scarves and tutus" they made her feel "swan-like from the beginning".
