Downtown Abbey leads the way at Emmy nominations

British drama Downton Abbey swept the board at this year’s Emmy Award nominations, alongside Damian Lewis and Benedict Cumberbatch...

Downton Abbey, Damian Lewis and Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch were flying the flag for British drama at the Emmy Award nominations, with multiple nominations this year.


Hit drama series Downton Abbey received a record twelve nominations, that included Best Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress, as well as Outstanding Supporting Actor and Actress amongst others.

The stars of the show Dame Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Jim Carter and Michelle Dockery are all up for individual awards, as is writer Lord Julian Fellowes.


And that’s not all as Star Trek actor Benedict Cumberbatch has also been tipped for Lead Actor alongside Brit Homeland star Damian Lewis, who is in the running for Best Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal on the show alongside American actress Claire Danes.

Other potential big winners at the awards include Mad Men, Game of Thrones and Kevin Spacey’s online series House of Cards.
