While Downton Abbey swooped Best Drama, Dr Who’s Karen Gillan and Matt Smith both snapped up Best Performance

The stars of the small screen collided on the red carpet last night for the National Television Awards and with a performance from X Factor winners, Little Mix, and award winners including Downton Abbey and Doctor Who’s Karen Gillan and Matt Smith, it proved a proud night for British TV.

Flame-haired beauty Karen Gillan worked burgundy velvet to collect her award for Best Female Perfomance in Doctor Who, adding AllSaints Dacio brogues and a vibrant green  Kate Spade bag for red carpet appeal.

Meanwhile, Doctor Who co-star was dashing as ever to take home Best Performance, too.

But it was everyone’s favourite ITV drama, Downton Abbey, which stole the show, beating Doctor Who, Merlin and Waterloo Road to win Best Drama.
