Exclusive: Your First Look at Diary Of A Teenage Girl, Including Alexander Skarsgard’s Dodgy Moustache

Diary of a Teenage Girl is a funny and emotional coming-of-age tale, but what's got us talking is the retro 70s fashion. We’ve got your exclusive first look at everything, from the facial hair to the crop tops and cords...

Diary of a Teenage Girl is finally released next month, with a seriously talented cast including Kristen Wiig, Bel Powley and Alexa Chung’s rumoured boyfriend, Alexander Skarsgard (the pair have been spotted holding hands, so we think that pretty much confirms it). The story follows Bel as Minnie, a 15-year-old girl who embarks on an obsessive relationship with her mother’s boyfriend, Monroe - here’s where Alexander pops up. Oh Minnie, we could have told you this relationship wasn’t the best idea...

While the UK release date might still be three weeks away (roll on August 7th), we’ve got world exclusive images of the cast from the film. Think dodgy moustaches, brown cords, paisley bandanas and a healthy dose of crochet – some of the biggest trends for SS15, actually. We’re kind of feeling that San Francisco 70s vibe for weekend style inspiration... Kristen Wiig looks almost unrecognisable as Charlotte, rocking brunette locks and some interesting berry knitted blouses.

Based on the semi-autobiographical novel by author and graphic artist Phoebe Gloeckner, the Diary of a Teenage Girl book (complete with illustrations) is a coming-of-age tale about love, sex and relationships, and just how confusing it can all be in your teen years. We’ve all been there: young, confused and heartbroken, and to be honest we’re not sure it gets any better as we get older, but that’s why readers are still relating to Minnie’s story thirteen years after the book was first published. Did we mention Diary of a Teenage Girl made it to the stage as a play, too?

These images have got us seriously excited for Diary of a Teenage Girl. If you can’t wait until then, watch the trailer below before the August 7th UK release date, and let us know if you’ll be rocking your cords and lurex to the cinema.
