While the stars of the silver screen celebrated the closing night at Cannes, Britain's small screen favourites descended on London's Grosvenor House Hotel for the BAFTAs with Matt Smith and girlfriend Daisy Lowe as well as the cast of The Only Way is Essex in attendance.
Doe-eyed Daisy Lowe and Doctor Who star Matt Smith made the most dapper of couples on the BAFTA red carpet. Nominated for best actor, Matt looked cool-as-could-be in a black buttoned-up suit teamed with slick back hair and his trusty Ray Ban aviators. Meanwhile, model Daisy went for sheer elegance in a Craig Lawrence gown and her hair swept to the side in a loose bun.
Brit boy Matt is Doctor Who's first Time Lord to be nominated for the prize and on being asked why he thought that was, he graciously admitted: "Luck. Who knows? I think I have a great team around me."
Sadly Matt lost out to Daniel Rigby who played Eric Morecambe in the BBC dramatization Eric and Ernie but the night really belonged to The Only Way Is Essex, which won the Audience Award voted by the public.
