An exhausted David Walliams emerged from the Thames yesterday, after successfully completing his exhausting 140-mile charity swim in aid of Sport Relief. He was welcomed on to dry land with a kiss from his model wife Lara Stone. Crowds of supporters at London’s Southbank, including celebrity friends Barbara Windsor, Miranda Hart and Lenny Henry, cheered and applauded the comedian as he stepped out of the water.
When asked how he was feeling after his gruelling, week-long challenge, which saw him swimming for up to 12 hours a day, while suffering from what he referred to as “Thames tummy”, the funny man replied that he was, “Okay, a bit tired”. He went on to express his gratitude for his “generous” fans, who donated a massive £1.1 million, for Sport Relief.
Speaking of the support he received, David revealed, “It made me really proud to be British. It's tough times and people have been so generous with their time and money”.
