Colin Farrell opened up to Ellen DeGeneres about his close friendship with Liz Taylor
Colin Farrell has revealed that he had a love affair with the late Elizabeth Taylor. And no, we definitely didn't see this one coming either.
The 37-year-old actor told the unlikely story to Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show, Ellen. The Saving Mr Banks star, who has allegedly dated Demi Moore, Angelina Jolie and Britney Spears, told the TV show host: 'It was kind of like the last, it feels like in my head, not her, I’m projecting, but the last kind of romantic relationship I had, which was never consummated.'
Colin desciribed how he had a chance encounter with Elizabeth Taylor's friends in a hospital several years ago, when his son, Henry, was about to be born. This meeting sparked a close friendship between Colin and Liz which lasted until her death in 2011.
‘I got home a few days later with Henry and I was thinking about Elizabeth and how she was doing and I called my publicist and I said I bumped into some people of Elizabeth Taylor’s, some friends of hers, could I send her some flowers?’ Colin continued.
‘And my publicist said, “That’s funny because I’m looking at and orchid from Elizabeth Taylor for you”… I said, “Woww that’s amazing”.’
‘I then cheekily about a week later said, “Listen is there any chance I can go…can I go and see her?”
‘That was the beginning of a year and a half or two years of what was a really cool time,’ Colin said.
Farrell was one of the few non-family members invited to Ms Taylor's private funeral, and also read a poem at the service. However, had he had it his way, he would have been family.
'I wanted to be [husband] number eight but we ran out of road,' Colin told Ellen.
'I just adored her. She was a spectacular, spectacular woman.‘
