Claire Danes may be happily married to Hugh Dancy, but her love life wasn’t always so simple. In the spotlight from a seriously young age—My So Called Life shot the now 36-year-old actress to fame when she was just 13—it can be said that Claire grew up very fast. However, nothing could prepare her for the feelings that would come with her scandalous past relationship with fellow actor, Billy Crudup, who you'll probably recognise from films Almost Famous and Big Fish

Back in 2003, it was the talk of the town when Crudup left his girlfriend, actress Mary-Louise Parker, who was 7 months pregnant at the time, for Claire, who was 11 years his junior at the time. The pair had met whilst filming a project together, and subsequently fell for one another.

And now, years after the scandal hit the headlines, the Homeland star has spoken out about what it was really like to be branded the ‘other woman’.

Speaking candidly to Howard Stern earlier this week, she revealed, ‘That was a scary thing. That was really hard. I didn’t know how to not do that.’

She continued, ‘I was just in love with him and needed to explore that and I was 24 … I didn’t quite know what those consequences would be … but it’s OK … I went through it.’

While they didn’t end up together for the long haul, their relationship did last six years before they went their separate ways, shortly after which Danes met Hugh, pictured together above at the 2014 Emmys, and the rest is history. When asked whether or not she still keeps in touch with Billy, she nodded and said, ‘we’re friendly’.

In another interview in 2009, Claire revealed that being known universally as the ‘other woman’ was ‘unpleasant to be cast in such an unflattering role, but I just had to remain steadfast.’ And that's exactly what she did.
