National treasure Cheryl Cole was the toast of the town last night in a figure-hugging Victoria Beckham gown at The Pride of Britain Awards, but the brunette beauty proved she wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty when she visited the troops in Afghanistan to mark a decade based in the Helmand Province.
Spending time with both British troops and members of the Afghan national army, Cheryl has revealed she took part in a demonstration that saw the pint-sized pop star conduct a compound clearance as well as aiding the evacuation of a casualty via helicopter.
On the trip Cheryl reflected: ‘'Afghanistan was an unbelievable experience. The whole trip was incredible. The men and women I met out there were inspirational, and so amazingly brave and dedicated.”
Before admitting: “I was warned before I went out there that it could be dangerous. But nothing was going to stop me from going. And I'm just so glad I did.”
And it would seem the feeling was mutual as Task Force Helmand chief in charge of her stay admitted: “Her smile is infectious, she was up for doing everything we suggested. She was like one of the lads.”
‘Atta girl Cheryl!
