Charlize Theron and Sean Penn have been the A-list couple of our dreams over the last few years but now, after almost two years together, it's been reported that the pair have decided to split, ending their engagement in the process. Say it ain't so guys. SAY IT AIN'T SO.
Having known each other both personally and professionally for decades, the 39-year-old Mad Max: Fury Road star and the 54-year-old Milk actor decided to take their friendship to the next level in 2013, and since became one of our all-time favourite celeb couples.
While both stars have been married in the past, they each treated their engagement as if it were their first. Penn, who was famously married to songstress Madonna and actress Robyn Wright said of the prospect of marrying Charlize, 'You say I've been married twice before, but I’ve been married under circumstances where I was less informed than I am today. So I wouldn't even consider it a third marriage [to Charlize], I’d consider it a first marriage on its own terms if I got married again. I mean, I like the tradition. A friend of mine wrote a line, "Without tradition, new things die." And I don’t want new things to die.'
If that doesn't pull on your heartstrings, this ought to do it...
Sean went on to say, 'I’m self-proclaimed bad at mathematics but I can do two plus two. 53-years-old plus finally beginning to figure out why you haven’t been happy in a single relationship? It could seem too late. But to run into somebody now who you care about is a much more passionate, deeper, truer and – God! – a much happier feeling.'
And Charlize has pretty well summed up what the entire female population think of her now ex-partner by saying, 'I'm a very, very, very lucky girl. Very lucky. He's hot. Putting aside that he's my partner, he's the love of my life.'
Sean. Charlize. Where did it all go wrong?! Well, in Europe apparently...
According to US Weekly, the Charlize was the one who decided to call time on their relationship after the pair worked very closely together on the upcoming film The Last Face — in which Charlize stars and Sean directs, and it looks like the stress of being together 24/7 was just too much.
After the film wrapped, the pair took to the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival together and even went to the Life Ball in Vienna where Sean sat on the front row while Charlize delivered a gripping speech for the charity. That was in the middle of May, and was the last time the couple were seen together.
We don't know about you but after reading the wonderful things these two have said about each other in the last few months — and due to the fact that Sean was set on co-adopting Charlize's son Jackson up until the end — we hope that these two work out their differences and get back together ASAP.
