New York was abuzz with The Great Gatsby fever last night when the film’s stars Carey Mulligan, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire joined director Baz Luhrmann, as well as Florence Welch and Jay-Z, at the world premiere of the film.
Lady in red Carey Mulligan wowed in a poppy-hued bandeau Lanvin dress teamed with Brian Atwood shoes and Tiffany & Co. jewels, while co-star Isla Fisher went for a flutter of florals courtesy of Dolce & Gabbana.
Tobey Maguire went for a super sleek look in a Saint Laurent suit, and it was Prada for leading man Leonardo DiCaprio, who commented on the presence of hip hop in the period film’s soundtrack: “I think it sort of seamlessly meshes into the film in a way that’s almost startling.
Before adding: “You don’t feel like you’re watching something from a different era. You’re connecting with these people and this time period in a much more subversive way.”
And the man in charge of the soundtrack, Jay-Z, was looking super dapper on the red carpet, alongside some of the musical collaborators, including Florence Welch, who worked an embellished Miu Miu gown with her typical ethereal style.
