Brit winner Ellie Goulding chats to InStyle

She's the British rising star that the music world is raving about… Get the lowdown on Ellie Goulding here!

Ellie Goulding is floating right now. The girl has just nabbed herself the coveted Brit's Critics Choice Award (as Adele did last year) and is getting a whole heap of air time with her hits Starry Eyed and Under the Sheets.

We chatted to Ellie ahead of her Xbox Reverb gig in Cardiff on 4th February where she will play an exclusive set including surprise cover tracks selected by her fans.

InStyle: Your performance at the Brit Nominations party was fab! Did you enjoy yourself?

Ellie: I was nervous! Because I'd won the award I thought I'd better show them why I'd won it so they didn't wonder what all the fuss was about! So obviously I gave it my best shot.

InStyle: We noticed your spangly trainers on stage…

Oh yes I've got these amazing Nike trainers… I'm practical – I run around on stage and I don't want to ruin my feet so I wear trainers. I go running a lot and feel comfortable in them. I like wearing heels every so often so it makes it more special when I do wear them.

InStyle: How does it feel to win a Brit award?

I'm really looking forward to the event as I don't have to perform so there's no pressure! Yay! So I just get to enjoy myself but I am going to wear something special… I love Vivienne Westwood and Matthew Williamson but I don't want to burst onto the scene in a massive dress…

InStyle: Describe Ellie Goulding style…

Simple but sporty. I love American Apparel and I always want to look good but I'm not flamboyant in any sense. I like wearing stuff I'm comfy in but I do get bored so I am branching out a bit. I think it's good to expand on your style a little bit – it's good to have an image. I'm very conscious that the most important thing is that I communicate through my voice though.

InStyle: Any celebs you think have great style?

I love Alexa Chung… Kate Moss and Sienna Miller both have something about them.

InStyle: And any musicians who really inspire you?

Lady GaGa works so hard at what she does… She makes completely shameless pop – I think so much pop is dissed but she kind of just does it. I was sceptical at first then watched a performance she did and was like WOW that girl has really got it!

I really admire Florence – we met and she said she'd been playing Under The Sheets over and over. That felt amazing because I really look up to her a lot.

InStyle: If you're out partying what's your beauty must-have?

I'm really into make-up and anywhere I go I always take my Chanel Blusher and lipgloss… I just bought a collagen lipgloss – even though my lips are quite big I want lips like Jordan!

Xbox Reverb is a series of intimate gigs taking place around the UK where fans interact with their fave bands via Facebook and Twitter… They can influence all aspects of the gig from Djing on the night to designing the gig's poster and much more Visit or to get involved.
