Once part of the biggest-selling band to have come out of Ireland, Stephen Gately died at the age of just 33 while he was in Majorca on holiday with his family.
The News of the World newspaper broke the tragic news late on Saturday night but the cause of his death still remains unclear.
Tributes and words of condolence have been pouring in for the late Boyzone star including those from close friend and X Factor judge Louis Walsh, who was absent from last night's show as he and the other members of Boyzone flew to Spain.
Louis Walsh, who was Boyzone's manager, had spent the evening partying with Stephen at Monday night's Pride of Britain awards and was the first to react to the shocking news, saying: ‘We're all absolutely devastated.
‘We don't know much about what's happened yet. I only heard after The X Factor and we will rally around each other this week. He was a great man.'
A statement from Ronan Keating and the other members of Stephen's former band said: ‘Stephen was a beautiful person in both body and spirit. Our love and sympathy go out to Andrew and Stephen's family. We love you and will miss you forever.'
