When news broke that Benedict Cumberbatch had proposed to his girlfriend Sophie Hunter, the (slightly unrealistic, let's face it) dreams held by women the world over that they would one day be Mrs Cumberbatch were unanimously shattered.
Anyone still in denial about the Sherlock actor's impending end of bachelorhood, should look away now, because that giant sparkler that we spotted on the ring finger of Ms Hunter's left hand can only mean one thing. These two are well and truly going to be tying the knot.
Making their first official red carpet debut since their engagement was announced in The Times, Sophie joined Benedict at the New York premiere of his latest film The Imitation Game.
Wearing a beautiful floral applique frock by A-list favourite Erdem, it looks like Sophie already has red carpet dressing down pat. Benedict meanwhile looked his usual dapper self in a smart navy suit with subtle polka dots. The rest of you stylish film star couple better watch out: Sophie and Benedict are already bringing their sartorial A-game.
Having only started dating this year, Benedict did recognise that their engagement was 'a crazy old love bomb to drop.'
Speaking to AP about his fans reaction to his happy news, the 38-year-old actor said: the amount of love that comes back to you, that was the thing that we are both just sort of bowled over by. It's wonderful
However, although he appreciates his fans, Benedict did emphasise that he only really needs the love of one women. 'The only support I really need, to be honest, is the woman I love who I proposed to.'
Which only really makes us love him more...
