A night of glamour descended on London as the BAFTAs 2012 was attended by acting royalty with the likes of Michelle Williams, George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Meryl Streep walking the red carpet alongside Brit stars Daniel Radcliffe, Eddie Redmayne and Michael Fassbender.

Despite freezing temperatures and a smattering of snow, Hollywood's finest came out in full force for last night's 64th BAFTA ceremony. InStyle was on the red carpet and chatted to Brad, George and Fassbender (swoon) while admiring the fabulous gowns on display. Our favourite? Michelle Williams, who was nominated for Best Actress for her role as Ms Monroe in My Week With Marilyn. She chose an elegant dress cutomised for her by high street brand H&M (!) accessoried with a chic book inspired clutch by Olivia Le Tan that was a tribute to Arthur MIller's work The Misfits. Marilyn would be proud.

The Artist was the big winner of the night scooping Best Film, Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Cinematography. Meryl Streep picked up the Best Actress gong for The Iron Lady, while Best Supporting Actress went to The Help star Octavia Spencer.

Gold hued gowns were the hot trend of the night with Bel Ami star Christina Ricci leading the way in a dazzling Givenchy number, with The Help star Jessica Chastain opting for pale gold Oscar de la Renta, while Great Expectations actress Gillian Anderson went for a vintage Sybil Connolly strapless dress.

Monochrome, blacks and nude hues were also a strong look for the evening, with Bridesmaids star Kristen Wiig in a cream Alberta Ferretti floor-sweeper, while Meryl Streep and Christina Hendricks worked black Vivienne Westwood gowns, and We Need To Talk About Kevin actress Tilda Swinton wowed in white Celine.

Meanwhile the men kept it uber dashing, with Best Actor nominees Michael Fassbender and George Clooney wearing Giorgio Armani Made To Measure suits, while Birdsong actor Eddie Redmayne worked a velvet Burberry suit.
