Last week, Angelina Jolie shocked, moved and inspired women the world over after revealing that she had recently undergone preventative cancer surgery once again — this time by having her ovaries removed — to minimise her risk of contracting the illness which tragically took the life of her mother back in 2007.
Yes, it's pretty heavy stuff and although it's no doubt one of the most difficult and traumatic things Angelina has ever had to put her body through, but this weekend she proved that she wasn't going to let her serious surgery get her down as she made her first appearance since going under the knife. Where did she decide to do so? At the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, obviously...
It may seem like a random event for Angie to make her initial post-surgery appearance at but, with her beautiful daughters Zahara and Shiloh on her arm, it must have been a pretty special outing for the family.
The actress was there as she was nominated for the Favourite Villain award for her role in Maleficent and when it was read aloud that she had won the gong, the Jolie-Pitt brood erupted into applause, hugs and squeals for their mother. And yes, it was completely adorable.
Taking to the stage to accept her award, Angelina used her time in-front of millions of people to give a very inspirational speech, which was all the more poignant given her recent ordeal.
'Different is good. So, don't fit. Don't ever try to be less than what you are, and when someone tells you that you are different, smile and hold your head up high and be proud.'
Sure, her speech may have been aimed at the young audience but it's something we can all do with being reminded of from time to time. Now THIS is why she is, in our opinion, the ultimate millennial feminist.
Angie; you really are an inspiration on so many levels...
