While the Lionel Richi v.s Adele video mash-up continues its Internet domination, we’ve got yet another update on the highly anticipated comeback from our favourite heartbroken songstress.
Released earlier this week, Hello, the latest single from Adele following a 3-year hiatus, has been the centre of much debate as to whom the song was written for.
Is she still pining over the ex that inspired the song Someone Like You from her infamous album 21? Or was there another man on the scene that we’ve failed to be informed about? With the rumour mill currently going into overdrive, Adele has surprisingly shed some light on the mystery.
Although famous for keeping her private life strictly under wraps, the 27-year-old singer has opened up during her first interview in three years to explain exactly who Hello was based upon... and it’s definitely not who you think!
‘Hello is about wanting to be at home and wanting to reach out to everyone I've ever hurt - including myself - and apologize for it,' she explained during an interview with i-D.
When asked if the song was in fact based on her ex, she quipped, 'That's over and done with, thank f—k. That's been over and done with for f—king years. No, it's not about anyone specifically. It's about friends, ex-boyfriends, it's about myself, it's about my family. It's also about my fans as well.'
Well, that’s settled then. She’s no longer pining over a broken heart, which we’re sure is relieving news to her current beau, Simon Konecki.

In addition to the above, we also discovered the following fascinating facts about Adele that we’d never known before:
- Hello is also about 'getting older and becoming nostalgic'
'It's about what was, what is, what might have been. It's about missing things that you had no idea were so precious, like being 18 years old and drinking two litre bottles of cider in Brockwell Park with your mates.' Classy.
- She finds motherhood a bit of a challenge
'It's f—king hard. I thought it would be easy. 'Everyone f—king does it, how hard can it be?' I had no idea. It is hard but it's phenomenal. It's the greatest thing I ever did. He makes me be a d—khead, and he makes me feel young and there's nothing more grounding than a kid kicking off and refusing to do what you're asking of them. It used to be that my own world revolved around me, but now it has to revolve around him.'
- She no longer considers herself a drama queen
'I used to f—king love the drama of all of it, but now I'm a mum I only have so much head space. I've got to clear a lot of stuff the f—k out, which is really therapeutic, 'cause I can really hold a grudge. Life is so much easier when you don't hoard your past.'
- She once wanted to be a heart surgeon
'I wanted to fix people's hearts,' she explained whilst discussing her alternative career goal. But despite Balham's Chestnut Grove School she had a sudden change of, erm…heart. And the reason why? 'Fun—and boys. I gave up on it. My heart wasn't in it anymore.'
Spot the irony…
- And finally, if you haven’t noticed already, Adele swears likes to swear. A lot.
