Benedict Cumberbatch photobombing Meryl Streep
1. Eddie Redmayne having the best honeymoon ever
We’d be pretty high on life if we were Eddie Redmayne right now. He’s just got hitched to the love of his life, actress Hannah Bagshawe, only to jet straight from his (slightly shortened) honeymoon to scoop a Best Actor Golden Globe for his role in The Theory Of Everything. "I thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for giving us a night at the end of our honeymoon we will remember" he joked. Will he bag an Oscar now too?
2. The Amal and George love story - Part II
The new Mrs Clooney made her first public outing with her husband since THAT Venice wedding dressed like a silver screen movie star in black Dior. The pair were a tight twosome on the red carpet – where George declined the offer of a celebratory shot of tequila and declared himself on ‘train duty’ for Amal - then later while collecting a Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award George gushed about her like it was their wedding day all over again. 'It's a humbling thing when you find someone to love,' he said. 'Even better if you've been waiting your whole life and when your whole life is 53 years. Amal, whatever alchemy it is that brought us together, I couldn't be more proud to be your husband.'
3. Jared Leto’s Manbraid
Is this the new manbun? Jared Leto’s plait immediately began trending on Twitter and within an hour of the ceremony had its very own twitter account @jaredletobraid.
4. Benedict Cumberbatch photobombing Meryl Streep
We notice Benedict loves a good photobomb. At last year’s Oscars he was snapped leaping up behind Bono on the red carpet. This year it was Meryl Streep’s turn. Is this the beginning of a yearly tradition?
5. Kevin Spacey (finally) getting a Golden Globe
He’s been nominated 8 times before and joked before the ceremony that he had jinxed his chances of winning by turning up. But last night he got the full recognition he deserved for his chilling portrayal of Frank Underwood in House of Cards. He was so surprised and excited to win he swore in his emotional acceptance speech. “I cannot believe I f***ing won!”
6. British underdogs
A delighted Joanne Froggatt won a gong for Downton Abbey, while Ruth Wilson beat Clare Danes to the punch with a best actress award for The Affair. Eddie Redmayne won best actor for The Theory of Everything and while his co-star Felicity Jones lost out to Julianne Moore in the best actress category, she definitely won the red carpet in a gorgeous teal Dior number.
7. The comeback king and queen: Michael Keaton and Patricia Arquette
Hollywood loves a good comeback story, and you can’t really beat Michael Keaton’s Birdman for that. Last night he won the best actor award for his portrayal of a washed up superhero movie star attempting to reinvent himself with a Broadway production. Meanwhile Patricia Arquette made a welcome return with Boyhood, a story of one family filmed over a 12-year period. If you haven’t seen either film then get the DVD or hit the cinema stat – both will be talked about a LOT in the coming weeks.
8. Catherine Zeta-Jones accidentally looking just like the salsa dancing emoji
Our favourite Internet meme of the night? Catherine Zeta-Jones looking like the sassy salsa dancing emoji. Who knew those little cartoons would become style inspiration?
