6 Things We Learned About Our July Cover Star, Jessica Chastain

She cracked Hollywood at a relatively late age but, since, Jessica Chastain has become a bona fide A-lister. Here's a sneak peek at our cover interview with the star...

She used to have an Annie-style perm...
'I wanted to look like Annie for a time, so I got a terrible perm and had a curly red afro because the perm fired my hair. then I cut it all off and had very short red hair. I always stood out for my choices.'

She found her first taste of fame overwhelming...
'It felt huge! And it was really scary. You can feel something spectacular is about to happen in your life, and my biggest fear was that once you pass this line, you're forever changed.'

She knew working with Brad Pitt on the Tree of Life was going to make her career...
'I knew the second signed on that it would be a game changer for my career. Then I was just scared I was going to get fired. It wasn't until after a week of shooting that I started to relax.'

She was helped through drama thanks to a scholarship from Robin Williams...
'I always thought in some way I would get to pay him back. I'm hoping there's a way to continue his legacy and keep the scholarship going.'

She's a strong advocate for women in Hollywood...
'As an audience member I go to the movies a lot, and I want to see women portrayed like the ones I know – women who are really intelligent and strong and vulnerable. I'm not interested in playing stereotype.'

She's not going to date a fellow actor any time soon...
'I made sure when I started that I was known for my work, not for whom I was dating. Acting is all about being open to another person, and to date an actor… it just confuses it, because how do you ever know if it's real?'
