Carey Mulligan, award-winning actress and the star of new film Suffragette, has given birth to her first child, even though we weren’t 100% certain she was pregnant in the first place.
And while she's been keeping mum on her new arrival, Carey has FINALLY revealed the sex of her newborn. Appearing on The Graham Norton Show over the weekend, she confirmed that she and her husband, Marcus Mumford, are the proud parents of a bouncing baby GIRL. Congrats!
The 30-year-old made her first post-pregnancy appearance as took to the red carpet last week for the Suffragette film premiere in London, wearing a beautiful in a Chanel Couture sheer mid-length dress, which was adorned with silver beading and featured drop-waist tutu style hemline. Because of the dress’s cut, we were able to see the baby bump, which only once debuted during her secret pregnancy.
It was back in April that we spotted Carey as she hit the red carpet for the London premiere of Far From The Madding Crowd gleefully cupping what already looked like the first signs of a pregnant tummy. And despite refusing to confirm her expecting status (the Great Gatsby actress has always been tight-lipped about her personal life) it definitely looked like the star was in the family way.
Then, a couple of months later at the Tony Awards in New York City, there was no denying that Carey was getting farther along in her pregnancy—it’s impossible to hide a six-month bump, even under a canopy of crimson Balenciaga.
Now, according to E! News, an insider close to the family revealed: ‘Carey has given birth to a healthy and happy baby. She is just enjoying this time with her family and close friends.’
Other than that, all we currently know is that she gave birth in September. We currently don’t know the name, how much the baby weighed or whether the little one instantly falls asleep the moment when Carey’s husband, Mumford & Sons frontman, Marcus Mumford, strums his acoustic guitar. Nada.
And considering she never even said a word about her pregnancy, we doubt we’ll be privy to any such information any time soon.
Irregardless, we’re super happy for Carey, Marcus, their little baby girl and their families. Congratulations to them all.
