'You Look Disgusting' - How This Beauty Vlogger Is Fighting Back Against The Bullies

Intro Deck:

Beauty Vlogger Em Ford has had enough of cyber-bullies...

Em Ford, is a London based model turned beauty vlogger who runs her own Youtube channel My Pale Skin. She also suffers from acne. About three months ago she started posting make-up free #selfies to her social media accounts but quickly became the victim of nasty comments from users all around the world including "WTF is wrong with her face?" and "You look disgusting." However, instead of shying away and deleting all evidence of her makeup free face, Ford decided to make a video highlighting what it's like to cyberbullied.

In the video Ford starts out barefaced, surrounded by cruel comments like 'seriously... has she ever washed her face?' and 'I can't even look at her.' She then goes on to apply makeup and cover her blemishes and the comments become positive such as 'you look beautiful' and 'you're so perfect'. However, many viewers also accuse Ford of being a liar, believing that by covering her skin she is actually misleading them. 'This is false advertising',  'trust no f*cking b*tch with make-up,' and "Imagine waking up next to her in the morning" are just a few comments that Ford received. When Ford slowly removes the makeup with a facewipe she highlights how many others suffer just like her on a daily basis from nasty IRL comments and how her honesty has inspired them; 'I wanted to kill myself,' 'My confidence is growing,' 'I'm finally accepting myself.'

Ford says she 'wanted to create a film that showed how social media can set unrealistic expectations on both women and men. One challenge many face today, is that as a society, we're so used to seeing false images of perfection, and comparing ourselves to unrealistic beauty standards that It can be hard to remember the most important thing - You ARE beautiful.'

By juxtaposing everyone's comments, Ford shows not only how cruel the world of social media can be but also how confusing it is too. According to some going barefaced with visible acne is disgusting but to others wearing makeup to cover acne is misleading. Ford basically shows you can't win and the most important thing to remember as her final comment states is 'you are beautiful.'
