Runway to red carpet: How to get a sexy, smoky stare

Runway to red carpet: How to get a sexy, smoky stare

Each season catwalk make-up artists love to reinvent the classic smoky eye, but all too often the look feels more dated than daring. Not so this year!

As proven by models at the spring/summer Matthew Williamson show, a subtle blend of grey, silver and black metallic shades gives this look a modern wet-look edge.

Ten out of ten for Mrs Beckham! We're loving her chic mix of metallic grey shadow with black eyeliner. Plus the statement fake lashes finishes off her eyes perfectly. Simply stunning!

Get the look:

1. Use a black pencil liner like BADgal Eye Pencil by Benefit and draw a line from the inner corner to the outer, keeping it as close to your upper and lower lashline as possible. To make the line less harsh, smudge both lines with a cotton swab.

2. Sweep powder shadow (choose either charcoal, grey or dark silver like Eye Touch Eye Shadow in Midnight Hour by Myface ( that contains all three) over the eyelid and into the eye crease, blending the colour up and outward. Do the same below the lower lashes.

3. Finish with either two coats of volumising mascara like False Lash Effect Mascara by Max Factor or, if you're feeling brave, glue on a set of false lashes - we love 10 Lash by M.A.C cosmetics.
