Hill and Dean
I’ve just experienced one of the best massages of my life.
While it poured with rain outside, I lay on a heated massage bed at The Connaught’s new Aman Spa, handily situated at one corner of the Golden Shopping Triangle that is Mount Street, Oxford Street and Bond Street, and felt as if I had been literally transported to Beijing so complete is the Asian vibe at this chic new spa.
I’d chosen the “inspired by China” treatment and inspired it was, from the green tea and crystal–filled footbath to start, followed by top-to-toe skin polish using Himalayan salts and jojoba oil, to the and a full-body ‘massage’ to finish. I say massage but this Chinese style was unlike any other I’ve known before, incorporating kneading, pushing, pulling, pressing, pinching, squeezing, rubbing - even a sort of flicking movement - along the entire length of my body’s meridians. Just the type of treatment Gwyneth Paltrow would love (she’s been a long-term guest at The Connaught, by the way), and all the while the air scented with herbs and flowers.
This is a spa that treats all the senses – even that of taste. Two and a half hours after my therapist Igor (blue eyes, broad smile) got to work, lo, a silver tray bearing sliced fresh fruit proved the ideal finishing touch.
I emerged into the street newly relaxed and energised, as Igor had promised, with glowing, velvety skin. Of course, I then went shopping. Basically, I had the perfect day.
Inspired by China treatment, 2 hours 30 minutes, £280
