Get The Look: Kate Bosworth's Fresh Look

We caught up with Kate Bosworth's make-up artist Andre Sarmiento, who talked us through her Catalina Film Festival look...

We were floored by Kate Bosworth's gorgeously fresh make-up look at the Catalina Film Festival, so we jumped at the chance to speak to her make-up artist Andre Sarmiento, who talked us through getting Kate's beautiful look at home.

Andre says...

For this event I wanted Kate to look fresh, but to bring in some colour too. She was receiving an award and not only was she going to be shaking hands and doing interviews, but we were in the unforgiving daylight. It was important that her make-up looked great in person and was able to stand up to the island sun. I used bright colors in sheer washes to create a natural look that popped.

Skin Prep – I started by blending several drops of SK-II Facial Treatment Essence into the skin and followed that with SK-II Essential Power Moisturizing Cream. I wanted the skin super hydrated and plumped up and this mix left her skin with an incredible texture.

Base – I worked in SUQQU Makeup Base Creamy all over the face then I used SUQQU Foundation in #15 to create a beautiful base that was nearly imperceptible but still totally flawless.

Powder – To set the makeup without completely matting down all the sheen I dusted MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural in Light all over.

Brows – I used SUQQU Eyebrow Pencil in 02 Brown to give natural looking definition and fullness to Kate’s brows.

Cheeks – I buffed Kett Fixx Crème Blush in Mai Tai in a steep angle along her cheekbones to give a contoured feel to the blush. I set the cream blush with RMK Ingenious Powder Cheeks in 06 Apricot for a glowing finish.

Eyes – For the eyes I knew I wanted a soft look but they still had to be radiant and defined. I used several shades from the Avon 8 in 1 Eye Palette in The Nudes to keep the eyes natural but still interesting. I blended the 4th shade, a matte taupe, all over the lid and high into the crease really buffing out the edge. Then I took the 7th shade, a shimmery champagne, and pressed it into the inner half of the lid. Next, I used the 6th shade, a rich bronze, on the outer half of the lid for extra depth to the eye. Finally I took the 5th shade, a glittery gold and popped it right on the centre of the lid for a sparkly but sophisticated finish.

Mascara – I used RMK Extra Deep Mascara W in 01 Black to give her lashes incredible volume and length. I applied one coat of the mascara and then a coat of the lash builder, then another coat of mascara. Her lashes were glossy and lush with no flaking all afternoon.

Lips – For the lips I mixed Laura Mercier Rouge Nouveau in Silk and Sexy to create a warm rosy pink lip that was sheer, bright and the perfect finish to her polished look. NL
