Cannes 2014: 10 Best Beauty Looks

The braid that started a frenzy, the lip that reignited our love of a Hollywood classic: We share the winning hair and make-up looks from the French Riviera’s red carpet so far

We've had our collective eye firmly trained on the Cannes red carpet all week, and now we're ready to award our 10 best beauty looks to these gorgeous A-listers...

BEST PLAITBlake Lively
The Gossip Girl starlet earned some serious hair envy at the French film festival with three of the best looks on the red carpet. But despite ooh-ing and aah-ing over her sleek oversized bun and tousled waves it was this showstopping braided high ponytail that had us googling how to DIY. It’s got just the right mix of glamour and ease. We LOVE!

Runner up… Eva Longoria
Sexy? Sultry? Girlish? Glam? We’re not sure what to call this braid but whatever it is, it works (especially worn with that super-sultry nude Vionnet turtleneck dress). The deep side part, the extra long tail and the loose, mussed up strands around her face all mesh together to form one amazing fishtail plait. Simply gorgeous.

BEST RED LIP: Jessica Chastain
Ms Chastain oozed old Hollywood glamour when she stepped onto the red carpet in that gorgeous cobalt blue gown. The clincher? Her ultra glossy red pout. It’s the perfect shade of look-at-me orangey-red and has just the right amount of modern day shine. Even better? We love that she paired it with a hint of sparkling eyeshadow and a matching red mani.

Runner up... Lea Seydoux
Okay so we know she's another redhead (maybe that's the appeal?) but Lea Seydoux's matte burgundy pout ticked all of our 'I-need-that-lip-shade-now' boxes. Thank you Lea for so elegantly proving the power of a bold matte lip! To steal her look paint colour on with a dedicated lip brush for a perfect finish.

We almost gave Mrs Johnny Depp the award for best red lip but it was the starlet's punk-inspired side sweep that won our vote instead. Play copycat and plait the opposite side of your hair to the sweep for the ultimate festival-meets-red carpet glam night out look.

Runner up... Cara Delevingne
We admit, it was her sparkling Chanel Couture minidress that first caught our eye but the uber-model's side-swept locks, bold brows and red lip combo was where we lingered. It's a little bit rock and roll, a little bit old Hollywood and a lot of 'we need it now!’.

Oh how we wish we could steal the gorgeous Dutch supermodel's glossy nude look from head to meticulously manicured toe. Her sheer pink lips, soft hint of blush and minimal eye make-up (with the exception of loads of fluttery lashes) was the perfect complement to her bold fuchsia Calvin Klein Collection gown. Lara, we adore you!

Runner up... Suki Waterhouse
The young star teamed her chic, white tiered Dior gown with a matching, ultra-flattering white shimmer shadow. And the rest? Her glowing complexion, peachy blush, groomed brows and elegant pinky-beige neutral lip was simple beauty at its best. Steal her look by mixing gloss and matte textures in a neutral palette for the ultimate modern day screen siren appeal.

BEST SHORT CROP: Jennifer Lawrence
Everybody’s favourite Oscar winner has been growing out her pixie cut for months, and it’s morphed into an uber-stylish sporty bob. We think this red carpet look - styled with a deep side parting and slightly wavy is her best yet. Worn with a soft smokey eye, nude lip, emerald drop earrings and layered black and blue body con dresses, she gets top marks for best overall red carpet appearance too.

Runner up... Cate Blanchett
There was a noticeable short crop trend on the Cannes red carpet: witness Jennifer, Sofia Coppola and the ever-stunning Ms Blanchett. The Aussie actress wins second place for the best short do thanks to a hard-to-nail trifecta of nonchalance, a bit of edge and a whole lotta glam. Note the finger-waved parting and bent ends to recreate her effortlessly chic tousled bob.
