Alexa Chung reveals the inspiraton behind her debut make-up collection for Eyeko
Alexa Chung has brought us one step closer to her design process by allowing us a never-been-seen-before look at her personal doodles for British beauty brand Eyeko.
The 30-year-old style icon is about to launch her first ever Eye Do make-up range for the eyeliner devotees, featuring a limited-edition line-up of an inky black mascara and waterproof liquid eyeliner that promises to deliver Alexa's signature cat-eye flicks with the stroke of a wand.
But before she does, Chung wanted to share exactly how she got there - and what inspired her to create her very first retro range for the cult cosmetics brand.
'My approach to Eyeko in terms of inspiration was to look at iconic beauties of eras goneby and study their approach to make up', Alexa explained. 'This involved a lot of staring at pictures of Bardot and Twiggy and Sophia Loren. Also images of cats, imagery in general from the sixties and then that pointed me in the direction of London being the epicenter of cool in the swinging sixties.'
'The London Underground, buses, mods, all of it. The colour blue was a ref to Picasso and the stars were literally because I was thinking of night time looks. I worked with Alia Penner who is one of my favorite artists and she really pieced everything together.'
Join Alexa at Selfridges, Oxford Street, London this Thursday November 14 at 7pm where she will be celebrating the launch of her very first collection. We'll be there!
