Intro Deck:

Yes we know they’re cheesy but those hair ads with models shaking their voluminous, touchable tresses have us hooked. Who doesn’t envy a bouncy, head-turning mane? Here, InStyle's beauty team share their top tricks to getting the look at home so even the biggest blow-drying novice can DIY polished, voluminous tresses...

Hair ads aside, Amal Clooney is the undisputed queen of the polished, impeccably put together look. She gets the style right, time and time again and we always have serious hair envy.  A sleek, glossy blow-dry with a good dose of volume at the roots like Amal’s is a timeless classic. It’s our go-to style for any big event, but until now we’ve always booked into the salon for an expert blow-dry.

And although blow-drying can be fiddly (we’re sure hairdressers have superhuman powers when armed with a hairdryer and barrel brush), there are some easy tips that can help you to style like a pro. A self-confessed hair styling rookie, InStyle’s beauty team talks us through the techniques you need to add volume and lift in your roots whilst keeping the rest of your hair smooth and frizz free.

Your secret weapon? A vented, round ceramic brush. It’s great at locking in heat and seriously amping up the volume of your do. Malena swears by her GHD Ceramic Vented Radial Brush (£17.50, johnlewis.com). If you’ve got long hair like Malena try the size four brush to create a bit of bounce. Got a shorter mane? Opt for a slightly smaller barrel instead.

With a bit of practice, you’ll be able to get a salon-style mane a la Mrs. Clooney minus a trip to the hairdressers. All we need now is a husband to rival George and our lives will be complete.
