My, how superficial we are when it comes to beauty products! Just one glimpse of a shiny rose gold label or an embossed double C is all it takes to fall wallet over heels for a new beauty product. Packaging counts for a hell of a lot in the beauty retail world and a lousy label can often mean the difference between a shopper dispensing with her hard earned cash or just walking on by. Talk about judging a book by its cover!
So, what do we consider unadulterated packaging porn? What makes it jump out at us form the shelf? It used to be the way things were gift wrapped - velvet pouches and thick card boxes – but all that extravagance and excess seems far too laboured in 2015. The most covetable products now take a more streamlined and minimalistic approach. Less packaging is definitely more. The chicest bottles have clean-cut glass lines, basic but weighty plastic caps, apothecary style labelling and vintage metals like rose gold and brass. All this mixed in with a little vintage charm and of course a hipster font.
3 Star Favourites That Can’t Go Unmentioned:
1. Absolutely anything that Chanel makes. The Chanel double C logo is said to be inspired by Coco Chanel’s long term love the Duke of Westminster’s crest (which can be found on central London lampposts) – but that may just be a romantic urban myth….
2. MDM Flow lipstick. Weighty, metallic and shaped like a bullet case. This is the coolest looking lipstick in town.
3. The clever Dior lipgloss that masquerades as a lipstick bullet – had us very confused for a couple of minutes then whooping with delight!
